On a late afternoon in May
2003, I drove back from a wedding in northwestern Iowa, opting for a
farm to market road that meandered through the region's hills and
valleys.
A solo drive through the countryside often provides a
refreshing escape from the busy demands of life. On that day, the sun
filtered through the trees with budding leaves and onto the newly
planted cornfields as the road dipped and climbed. Pockets of farmhouses
with their red barns and livestock in pastures dotted the countryside. The
scene was perfectly serene save for the sound of tires on the road, and the
vivid spring colors radiated from the setting sun.
Satisfying as it is to cross items off our busy "to-do" lists,
it's equally important to periodically put life on pause, to reflect and
listen for direction in our lives. Even Rand McNally doesn't have a map
for that adventure.
This song aims to capture the energetic confidence and
carefree spirit of traveling on the open highway and 'listening' to our
inner thoughts.
Inspired while driving through the hills of Iowa, Country Drive is
about adventure and never taking the same road twice.
