Midnight Clear CD Review: Rikk’s Revues
Reviewed by Rikk
Over and over it seems every year, the same songs get recorded again and again for so many Christmas releases. At times, we just truly wish the season wouldn’t come at all, and it’s not because so much the reason of the holiday, but more the music that bombards us from all angles, with ten or twenty “new” CD releases all throwing the same tracks at us too many times.
In 2005, there is a bright spot on the horizon with the release of Joe Curry’s latest disc “Midnight Clear.” The CD is a welcome relief as Joe Curry’s stunning piano work is the main focus of the project. The CD would be perfect for a romantic holiday evening, even great “mood” music, but it is when you truly let the music take over that you get the real feeling and sound. Joe Curry’s playing of the 14 tracks here is nothing short of astounding.
The old Christmas standards like “O Come All Ye Faithful”, “Joy To The World”, “Silent Night”, “Away In A Manger” and others get a breath of new life. The interpretation of the sounds from Mr. Curry is what makes Midnight Clear one CD that stands above many others. A truly enjoyable listening experience from beginning to end.
