ThanksChristmas

Thanksgiving Dinner
365.327

On Thanksgiving, the Curry’s have a unique family tradition that involves celebrating Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas cheer all in one day. The day began with a 3 mile Curry family Turkey Trot, this year in matching red logo T-shirts. My mom did a fantastic job with the table decorations in the new all-season patio, with a table each reflecting Thanksgiving, Christmas and Snowmen (January?) colors. A very filling dinner was followed by our White Elephant gift exchange and then Christmas desserts. And, I still had plenty of time to login online for the first Black Friday shift for work.

I like puzzles. Just not puzzles that have more than 500 pieces.

Things in Dinkytown were pretty quiet this Tuesday night before Thanksgiving weekend. I needed a haircut, and Hop’s Salon is right around the corner from Annie’s Parlour. I love that place–best campus shakes when I was in college. I’ve had many reunions there and that’s where my friend Erika and I celebrated finishing our last final exam of our college career.  Yes, I celebrated with a butterscotch shake and fries. I’m so wild.

Framed

I discovered some empty poster frames and my photography mentor Carly helped me adjust the camera settings. Before long, we were both framed.

Today the sun shines through the crisp fall air, but soon the snow will fall.

Apple Night

Friends

I hosted a pie making party with Target Spots friends. Homemade pie crust is so simple but not so easy, yet it’s worth the extra effort. (Here’s the recipe for a double-crust pie.) With four helpers, we peeled and diced apples, added sugar and spice, rolled out the pastry, and painted decorative apples on the crust. We rounded out the evening with takeout Chinese food, singing and board games–oh, what a night!

Not an Exit

“Let’s take the stairs,” someone said at the offfice. “It will be good for us.” So, the three of us started down the stairs in City Center. We saw several doors that said “Not an Exit,” which at first was funny and for a fleeting minute, a blogworthy moment…

…Until we realized we were locked in the stairwell. Next time, I’ll stick with Stairmaster.

Side note: Like Kris’ necklace? She makes them and you can find similar ones on her website: olivejewels.com

I never would have guessed that dragons would appear twice in this yearlong project. But, indeed it has.

It was so good to see my friends Julie and Clint and their newborn, Owen (and of course my friend Mai too!) The last time we’d gotten together was the 4th of July. No summertime grillin’ this evening, so we did Chinese takeout instead.
