Tipi
365.330
A tipi-like structure marks every rest area in South Dakota. This particular rest area is on I-29 at the Vermillion exit, and this may have been my second stop here (ever) because it’s only 8 miles from home. (The first being a geocaching adventure.)

What though the odds be great or small,
old Notre Dame will win over all,
while her loyal sons are marching onward to victory.
Adirondack

Today the sun shines through the crisp fall air, but soon the snow will fall.
Chinese Dragon

I never would have guessed that dragons would appear twice in this yearlong project. But, indeed it has.
Toyland

This music box has been in my childhood bedroom for as long as I can remember. The paint is chipped and hot glue keeps it together, but the music sounds the same as it did when I was a niño. [Click to play Toyland.]
Toyland, toyland
Little girl and boy land
While you dwell within it
You are ever happy there
Childhood joyland
Mystic merry toyland
Once you pass its borders
You can never return again
While you dwell within it
You are ever happy there
Childhood joyland
Mystic merry toyland
Once you pass its borders
You can never return again
For once you pass its borders
You can never return again.

Another election season has come and gone. And so have the political TV ads.
Bookstore

Reading in a corner nook of the bookstore is always most appealing in the winter.

Admissions
I was a volunteer tour guide at the University of Minnesota all four years of college…the kind that walk backwards for 90 minutes highlighting campus classrooms, residence halls, opportunities and extracurriculars. We met each Tuesday night to learn the facts and folklore of our beloved campus. And it was my pleasure to (attempt to) inspire high school students and educate their parents about the U in their pursuit of higher education. Today, we had the first Admissions Ambassadors Alumni Reunion. In many ways, all those campus tours prepared me for a career in PR and communications. After all, at the very basics, it’s about knowing your audience and storytelling, whether it’s a good, service or an experience.
Here with my friends Ben and Heidi Meyer, an Ambassador of the Year in 1995. (Sorry Heidi, I just gave away your age, but not really because you started college at 14, right?)
