Annie’s

Things in Dinkytown were pretty quiet this Tuesday night before Thanksgiving weekend. I needed a haircut, and Hop’s Salon is right around the corner from Annie’s Parlour. I love that place–best campus shakes when I was in college. I’ve had many reunions there and that’s where my friend Erika and I celebrated finishing our last final exam of our college career.  Yes, I celebrated with a butterscotch shake and fries. I’m so wild.

These columns are part of an art installation in my office tower. For this project, artist Ayomi Yoshida covered four soaring pillars with more than 600 painted and carved panels and pasted approximately 62,000 wood chips to the stairway’s white walls.

Take the A Ramp

While not quite the same, every time I walk back to the A Ramp in Minneapolis, I think of Take the ‘A’ Train, a signature tune of the Duke Ellington Orchestra and composed in 1939. Except my train is my Ford.

This skyway has a similar composition to a photo I captured in May in Loring Park of the Whitney Bridge, one of my favorite images of this year’s project. I only stopped for 2-3 minutes to take a photo, but clearly my business suit-clad self was deemed a threat because it wasn’t long after that I heard the loudspeaker call security. No matter, I was done. I’ve had to work quickly before.

Skyline Glow

     365.293

When you’re working in an office all day, the opportunities for photo taking are slim. So, I was excited to see the skyline glow on this night as I walked through the parking ramp.

Looking through the Pane

We had a team offsite meeting at the Mill City Museum in Minneapolis, when I saw this picturesque view through the windowpane.  (Here’s a view much closer from an April post.)
